School Liaisons

What Can A School Liaison Do For You?

The school liaison program is a partnership between the Ashland County Mental Health Board, Appleseed Community Mental Health Center and the Ashland County School Districts.

Services the liaisons provide:

  1. Brief assessments to identify student and family needs and strengths
  2. Linkage to school and community resources
  3. Collaboration and consultation with school staff
  4. Crisis intervention and debriefing
  5. Interventions to teach healthy life style development
  6. Family outreach, education and home visits
  7. Partnership with community resources.

If your child or family has a need or concern, please contact one of the school liaisons and to come up with resources and a plan to help meet that need or concern. From basic needs to more complex or complicated issues, the liaisons are here to help.

I entered the United States Air Force right after high school and proudly served on active duty from July 1987 through February 2009. I retired at the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7) in the Contracting career field. During my service, I deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm and to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom. I was honored to be the first female in my career field to serve in Saudi Arabia. My military experience continues to shape my dedication to service, leadership, and supporting military-connected students and families.

Prior to working at Mapleton Elementary, I proudly served in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for six years, followed by more than ten and a half years in the USCG Reserves as a Marine Science Technician. During my time in the service, I met my husband, who served in the United States Army for over six and a half years, including three tours in Iraq.

In my family, military service runs deep and has shaped who we are. My grandfather served in the Army, showing us the meaning of strength and sacrifice. My father followed his example by serving in the National Guard, protecting both our country and our community. Now, my son proudly continues that legacy as a member of the Army, and I couldn’t be prouder to see him carry forward the tradition of service that began generations before him.

My family is closely tied to the military. My husband, a Master Sergeant, is in the Air National Guard. He has served for 14 years. His brothers also serve or have served in the Air National Guard for many years. Being part of a Purple Star School is very meaningful to us, because it makes our family feel supported. My family is proud to be Mounties and love the ways Mapleton honors our military members and families.

I come from a long line of veterans, which includes my dad, brother, two grandpas, and many uncles. My dad retired from the Air Force after 28 years and was deployed at least 3 times. My brother is medically retired from the Air Force after a deployment to Iraq. One of my grandpas served in World War II with the Army, and the other one was a Coast Guard veteran. I have many uncles who served in the Marines and Navy as well. Currently, I am a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary member and serve as the treasurer in our local auxiliary. In this organization, we honor and serve all veterans and their families; therefore, carrying on the legacy of our military family.
