District Nurse

Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license and possess either an Ohio Department of Education & Workforce School Nurse License or a Wellness Coordinator Endorsement.

The District Nurse provides leadership and oversight to all School Clinic Nurses within the Mapleton Local School District, ensuring consistent and high-quality health services across all schools. This role also serves as a liaison between the district and the Ashland County Health Department, collaborating on public health initiatives, communicable disease prevention, and community wellness programs. The District Nurse also works closely with students, families, and school staff to address individual health needs, support chronic condition management, and promote a safe and healthy learning environment.  The District Nurse must be able to prioritize tasks effectively, adhere to timelines, and meet local, state and federal deadlines and requirements. Clear, timely, professional oral and written communications to all stakeholder groups are essential, as well as proficiency in computer applications including word processing, email, and electronic health records.


This is a part-time position with a total of up to 200 hours per school year, equivalent to approximately 5 hours per week during the academic year. Compensation is up to $35.00 per hour based on qualifications, licensure and experience.

Must hold a valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or prior experience as a School Health Aide

The Mapleton Local School District is seeking (1) School Clinic Nurse for Mapleton Elementary School and (1) School Clinic Nurse for Mapleton Middle/High School. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of child and adolescent health issues, growth and development, and the social-emotional needs of students. The successful candidates will be competent in providing care for ill and injured students, including those with chronic medical conditions, and must consistently deliver compassionate, student-centered care. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced clinic environment, follow physician’s orders and medical care plans, and operate both independently and collaboratively as part of the Mapleton Local School District health team. School Clinic Nurses must be able to follow directions and guidance from the District Nurse and administration, prioritize tasks effectively, adhere to timelines, and meet deadlines. Clear, timely, professional oral and written communications to all stakeholder groups are essential, as well as proficiency in computer applications including word processing, email, and electronic health records.

These positions are assigned for 200 days during the academic school year beginning August 4, 2025. The daily work schedule is 7.5 hours per day, approximately 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Compensation is up to $25.00 per hour for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or up to $18.00 per hour for a School Health Aide based on qualifications, licensure and experience.  Positions are eligible for other full-time benefits.
