Board Bios
KATHY GOON
BOARD MEMBER
Kathy is a graduate of Hillsdale High School. She attended Ashland University where she was a member of the softball team. Later in life, she decided that a Master of Business Administration was needed to further her career. She spent several years with the Small Business Development Center until the opportunity arose to become the Executive Director of the Ashland Area Economic Development Office. Recently, she has accepted the position as Executive MBA Director for the MBA and Graduate Business Programs at Ashland University. She is also the part-time Fiscal Officer for the Loudonville Public Library. Her son Braylon Goon is a senior; a member of Student Council; National Honor Society; and on the Cross Country and Track Teams. Kathy volunteers as a board member of the Loudonville Mohican Chamber of Commerce.

FRED HARTZLER
VICE PRESIDENT
Fred Harztler has lived in the Mapleton School District with his family for several years. He and his wife, Mindy, have been married for 30 years. They have five children, Shayleen who graduated from Mapleton in 2015, Shila, a 2019 graduate of Mapleton, Sheldon is a 2023 graduate of Mapleton, Shaiden is a 2025 graduate of Mapleton, and Shaw a seventh grader also at Mapleton. He is a 1991 Norwayne High School graduate and he attended Akron University for four years.
He is a self-employed dairy farmer. He is also a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.

VINCE HARTZLER
PRESIDENT
Vince has lived in the Mapleton School District with his family for several years. He is married to Courtney, who is a teacher at Ashland City Schools. They have three sons, Luke who graduated from Mapleton in 2022, Dylan who graduated from Mapleton in 2025 and Tyler who is a junior.
He is employed as an estimator at Simonson Construction Services, Inc. He has degrees from the University of Akron and Walsh University. He is a graduate of Leadership Ashland. He and Courtney also serve as youth ministry leaders at Cross Connect Church. He and Courtney have been involved in various groups at Mapleton including PTO, youth sports coaching and the levy committee. He is looking forward to working with the Mapleton staff and community to serve the students and prepare them for success.

Career Advising
We are participating in Career Connections! The goal of this program is to provide connections between classroom learning and future career possibilities. Throughout the school year, students will participate in a number of Career Exploration activities. These will include field trips, guests speakers from local businesses and exercises completed on Naviance and much more! See the attached file at the bottom of the page for more information.
Child Find Statement
In an effort to serve young people with disabilities, Mapleton Local Schools is continually in the process of locating and evaluating children from birth to 21 years of age who are suspected as having a disability. Disabilities may include developmental delays, health impairments, autism, and traumatic brain injury. Individuals may contact local school districts about children who may have a disability and may be eligible for special education services. District superintendents have information available about special education policies and procedures in each building by contacting the building principal. Department of Education and Workforce Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship
The Jon Peterson Special Needs (JPSN) Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who are eligible to attend kindergarten through 12th grade and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their district. The amount of each scholarship will be based on the primary disability condition identified on the student's Evaluation Team Report (ETR). Students must be enrolled in the scholarship program for the entire program year to receive the full scholarship amount.

General Monitoring of School-Issued Devices
Please be aware that the District, either directly or through a technology provider, is electing to generally monitor all school-issued devices (as that term is defined by R.C. 3319.325). The monitoring will include the following features: student interactions with school-issued devices (e.g., keystrokes and web-browsing activity). The District generally monitors these features for the noncommercial education purpose of instruction, technical support, and/or exam proctoring. Additionally, these features are generally monitored as a necessary precaution for preventing and/or responding to threats to life or safety.
