Mapleton Elementary School

We are proud to share some exciting news about Mapleton Elementary! Our school has been recognized for the hard work happening every day to help students learn and grow. Over the past several years, our staff has worked hard to improve teaching and learning for all students. Through professional learning, teamwork, and a strong commitment to student success, that hard work is being recognized.

Science of Reading Champion School

Mapleton Elementary was also named a Governor's Science of Reading Champion School. This award recognizes schools that use research-based reading practices to help students become successful readers.

Over the last few years, our teachers have participated in extensive training in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. They have spent countless hours learning new instructional practices, analyzing student data, and adjusting instruction to meet students' needs. Because of their commitment, our students are building stronger reading skills and gaining confidence as learners.

Momentum Award

Both Mapleton Local Schools and Mapleton Elementary earned the Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This award is given to schools that show strong student growth and academic progress. It means our students are learning, growing, and making gains each year.

This recognition reflects the dedication of our teachers and staff, who work every day to meet the needs of all learners. Whether through classroom instruction, small-group support, intervention programs, or enrichment opportunities, our staff is committed to helping every student succeed.

Purple Star School

We are also proud to be a Purple Star School. This recognition is given to schools that support military-connected students and families. We work hard to make sure every student feels welcomed, supported, and valued.

These awards belong to our entire Mapleton community. They are a result of the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the support of our families.

The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts tips via call, text, webform, and mobile app 24 hours-a-day. Anyone can download the Safer Ohio School Tip Line app or use this link to access the webform.

This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety — whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.

Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):

• Bullying incidents;
• Withdrawn student behaviors;
• Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;
• Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;
• Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;
• Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and
• Any other school safety-related concerns.
